Is Google Losing Ground?
Is Google Losing Ground?
For years, Google has been the primary tool for planning trips and discovering destinations. But is it still enough?
Today's travelers, hyper-connected and yearning for authentic experiences, are turning to new sources of information that are closer and more up-to-date. They seek information beyond typical guidebooks. They consult specialized blogs that help them find hidden gems, traveler forums that offer recommendations on where to eat, where to sleep, or what times to visit attractions, the best dates to travel, and the best deals on meals...
This search for more authentic and experiential information is driving the creation of new technological tools. Interactive totems, for example, offer tailored information, as do dynamic maps, proximity marketing, and interactive experiences that go beyond a simple Google search.
The challenge for the tourism industry is to adapt to this new reality. Providing real "phygital" (physical and digital) information, accessible and tailored to the traveler's needs, is key to standing out in an increasingly competitive market that still prioritizes the immediacy and accuracy of information.
